WHY: In 2023, Councilor Woods was exploring the life and legacy of A. G. Gaston. While attempting to secure a copy of his autobiography, “Green Power”, Woods discovered it was out of production. Feeling passionate that the story of this iconic American entrepreneur and civil rights leader should be accessible to all, Council District 1 partnered with the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club and family to determine how the book could be reproduced for future generations.

Dr. A.G. Gaston was one of the most influential entrepreneurs of his time, and we believe his memoir is more relevant than ever, especially as we strive to inspire our youth to build financial literacy, strengthen community bonds, and set intentional goals for their futures. It is our hope that Green Power will inspire new readers, allowing them to see themselves in Dr. Gaston's journey and be empowered to chart their own paths toward success.

To complement the reprint, we are also producing a new audiobook edition that will feature enriched content — first-hand accounts from those who knew or worked with Dr. Gaston, and reflections from current leaders about his lasting influence.

Reprints of Green Power will be available Christmas 2024 and February 2025 (Black History Month).
