June
Man Up Breakfast
Council District 1 commemorates the fathers and father figures who make our community strong through the annual Man Up Breakfast. The 2024 event was a major success, and included a panel on fatherhood featuring Mayor Woodfin, Doug Taylor, and Ted Debro – the latter of which was gifted a special Legacy Award. Whether you recently embarked upon the journey of fatherhood or bring a more seasoned perspective, this annual event is an opportunity to honor positive male role models across District 1 for the support, stability, and guidance they contribute to our community. We continue to celebrate upstanding men who set shining examples for District 1 youth.
Magic City Showcase 2024
In its fourth year, The Magic City Showcase Football Combine is a one-day event that gives high school athletes a chance to showcase their talents to college recruiters. As the largest of its kind in the southeast, with over 300 scholarships offered since its inception, attendees are exposed to coaches, scouts, and university representatives to some of the most powerful football programs in the nation. The June 2024 Magic City Showcase was a major success, with hundreds of athletes in attendance at Legion Field. In addition to working with partners like Rivals and 247 to build football profiles, kids were also able to explore tutoring and ACT prep resources to learn how to become scholar athletes. Organizers look forward to growing the event in its 5th year.

The store not-only represents District 1’s growing interest to businesses, but stands as one of Jacks’ newest prototype restaurants – complete with a covered porch and rocking chairs that exude Southern charm. Buzz and visitor foot-traffic around the store has remained high since the grand opening.
